In order to meet the housing requirement for Gedling Borough for the period 2011–2028, Gedling Borough Council is consulting on a major new development site, combining Gedling Colliery/Chase Farm with development on Mapperley Golf Course - as the golf course is owned by the Council. The site would be one of the biggest development sites in Greater Nottingham, transforming its eastern edge. |

It could include as many as 1,900 homes, a new supermarket, and a business park, and would have to be supported by a new Gedling Access Road, linking Mapperley Plains with the A612. It is proposed that a replacement site would be found for the golf course. |

LATEST NEWS: Delight as building plans on golf course are to be dropped! The future of Mapperley Golf Course has now been secured after the Labour Group at Gedling Borough Council have u-turned on their intention to build on the land, mainly due to the lack of the £10 million funds which was required upfront for the planned relief road. A Special Cabinet Meeting at Gedling Borough Council is to be held at the new time of 4.00pm on Wedneday 7th December. This has been arranged to ratify and discuss the announcements that have been made that Mapperely Golf Course land is NOT to be made available for housing. Statements have so far included an intention to return it to Green Belt status and, presumably from the golf club press release, an intention to redraft the lease to the club to give it more security to the land. The Cabinet meeting is open to the public and starts at 4.00pm. It will be held in one of the committee rooms but may be moved to accommodate a large number of attendees.
